Special Issue on Mechanical Behavior of Polymer Composite Materials and Structures

Proposal of Special Issue on

Mechanical Behavior of Polymer Composite Materials and Structures (I)

Journal of Composites and Advances Materials Revue des Composites et des Matériaux Avancés

IIETA - International Information and Engineering Technology Association

Introduction:

In the past few decades, invention, design and analysis of advanced composite materials and structures for aerospace, automotive, marine, etc., applications have been considered as one of the main demands for advanced industries. Mechanical analysis and failure assessment of composite structures rely on the understanding of the mechanical behavior of the composite materials in terms of elastic-plastic response, damage mechanism and failure phenomena. Several approaches, including continuum damage mechanics, peridynamics, physical chemistry (Statistical Mechanics), etc., are used to model composites behavior in different scales. Computational methods in terms of molecular dynamics, finite difference method, finite element method, boundary element method, etc., are developed in the form of computer programs for simulation of three-dimensional objects under various loading conditions. Mathematical modelling assisted by computer programming are used to simulate the composites behavior in real condition and predict the linear, nonlinear, instability and failure behaviors of the materials and structures. Development of the material models of composites normally faces many challenges that requires contributions in mechanical characterization, mathematical modelling, physical-based modelling and simulation or novel experimentation.

Aims and Scope:

This special issue intends to gather recent advances in mathematical-physical modelling, simulation and experimentation of advanced polymer-based composite materials and structures in terms of linear-nonlinear response or failure behaviors. Studies on the constitutive behavior of composite materials in different scales are encouraged. Articles and reports in any stages of research that contribute to the development of materials behavior in terms of elastic-to-damage processes are welcomed.

Potential topics and papers that fit the scope of this Special Issue and the Journal of Composite and Advanced Materials concern with a variety of disciplines, including (but are not limited to):

  • Mathematical/physical modelling, computer simulation and experimentation
  • Mechanical and damage characterizations of composite materials
  • Damage, fracture and fatigue mechanics of composites
  • Design and analysis of composite structures
  • Novel experimental method
  • New applications of composites in advanced industries

Review Processes:

This special issue considers double-blind review, which means the manuscript authors personalities are masked from the reviewers, and vice versa, throughout the review process. To smooth this, authors need to ensure that their manuscripts are prepared in a way that does not give away their identity.

If the paper is out of the research scope of the guest editors/potential reviewers listed in the special issue, then authors are obligated to recommend, two suitable independent reviewers with at least Ph.D. degrees, both with expertise in the field of the submitted manuscript, who are willing to review the article in rigorous way. The two reviewers must not be employed at the same workplace as the author/team of authors of the reviewed article, and the affiliations of both the reviewers have to differ as well. An author/team of authors, can submit max three articles simultaneously. In such a case, there must be different reviewers for each of these articles. It is not possible to recommend the same reviewer for both the articles. The lead guest editor also reserves the right not to assign an unsuitable reviewer/reviewer recommended by an author/team of authors of the article in question.

Publication Policy:

  • This Special Issue shall only contain original research papers, reviews/case studies from Universities, Research Institutes, Government Research Organizations and Industries etc.

  • Research papers should be prepared as per latest “Instructions for Authors” available on RCMA website: http://www.iieta.org/Journals/RCMA.

  • Papers deemed to be of poor quality, or inappropriate for the Special Issue, or of poor English language or with plagiarism (detected at any stage of publication) will face rejection by Editorial Board of RCMA.
